Areas of work/research

Tobias Patrick Treczoks conducts research focussing on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by high-school students as part of a joint project between the Chair of Physics Education at LMU and the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN). While particle physics is making use of machine learning algorithms already for decades, teenagers often still have to find their way in a world of quickly evolving AI applications.

In order to support the students, his research is investigating key competences for effective use of AI. These will then specifically be trained in an interactive lab workshop, which is to be conducted at CERN’s new science centre, the CERN Science Gateway. Building bridges between AI in particle physics and the students’ everyday life will help preparing future-ready citizens.

Short biography

Tobias Patrick Treczoks studied Physics at the Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg. His research focuses in the fields of acoustics and medical physics led him not only to a master’s degree in Hearing Technology and Audiology but in 2022 eventually also to the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN). In the framework of his master thesis in Physics, he performed research on short-lived radioactive isotopes for biomedical applications at the ISOLDE facility. During his time at CERN, his interest in science communication was fostered. Thus, in January 2024 he took over a position as project associate for the TU Dresden-led Netzwerk Teilchenwelt. Since September 2024, he is now conducting Physics Education Research at CERN for the respective chair at LMU.
